Baseball was my life, and the major leagues were my dream, but after my accident, I had to say goodbye to sports and find another door to walk through on my quest to become mobile again. To keep my spirits up, I took acting classes, which helped me recover my speech, regain control of my body, and re-establish my confidence. As people grow, they sometimes grow apart. I always thought it was funny that Big Jule doesn’t sing or dance but has a part in a musical. What could be better than stand up comedy to show people I was back? The truth is, people don’t know what to say to handicapped people. With standup, I could get out there and make the first move, using humor to handle what I had been through. Now I could hit it out of the park with jokes on the stage.
